SoutheastHEALTH College Healthcare Summer Camp - SoutheastHEALTH College partners with Southeast Hospital every summer to provide high school students first-hand opportunities to learn in a working hospital! If any students have an interest working in healthcare, this summer camp is an excellent way for them to see a variety of educational paths and career opportunities. Students who will be entering 10-12th grades in the fall of 2023 are eligible to attend. The camp is June 11-13 in Cape Girardeau, MO, with campers staying in a Southeast Missouri State University dorm. The attached flyer has all the details of the two-day camp. SEMO President's Scholarship: The President's Scholarship is awarded annually to five students who represent the top applicants to Southeast. The award starts at $10,000 for the first year and grows as they renew it for an award total of $43,000 over four years.

Students with a 3.9 high school GPA with no ACT or SAT score or a 3.75 high school GPA with a 31 ACT/1390 SAT are eligible to apply. 

The process is pretty easy:

Step 1: Apply for admission to Southeast Missouri State University
Step 2: Complete the President's Scholarship Application

Select applicants will be invited to interview for the scholarship in the spring. Those who are invited to interview but are not selected will automatically receive a one-time $1,500 study abroad stipend in addition to their Copper Dome and Residence Life Leadership awards.

If students take the test multiple times, the best subscores will be used to create the superscore. This will maximize student’s scholarship eligibility.

Missouri Scholarship & Loan Foundation’s Access EXTRA Scholarship

This an easy scholarship application for students who qualify, with no essay questions. Please encourage your qualifying students to apply for this scholarship opportunity – the scholarship is $2,000 per academic year and renewable up to 4 years as long as the student attends a Missouri institution. Here are the qualifications:

  • Current senior from Missouri attending a Missouri college for the 2021-22 academic year

  • Need component: EFC of $12,000 or less

  • Meets one of the following merit criteria:

    • Cumulative high school GPA (through at least 7 semesters) of 3.80 or higher

    • ACT score of 27 or higher

Southeast awards more than $2 million in scholarships each year. Students can now receive up to $3,000 in scholarships without a test score. See scholarship updates here.

From the CCC: "The Cape College Center (CCC) is continuing the summer session with remote learning opportunities for our students via online courses and Zoom. If you have students who want to take advantage of Early College Credit and discounted tuition during the summer when vacations may not be occurring, now is the perfect time! We have no application fee and will begin free Accuplacer testing again after May 18th for those who either don’t have ACT scores or want to try to improve a score to qualify.

We will offer MA116 Precalculus A via Zoom, SC105 Public Speaking via Zoom and EN100 College Writing, MA090 Beginning Algebra, MA106 Intermediate Algebra and AR112 Hist Appreciation of Art in an online format. Deadline to apply and enroll is May 27th but we can take late applications on a case-by-case basis."

Sleep Health Scholarship - Each student who is awarded a scholarship will be given $1,000 towards their university or college fees. The scholarship is awarded once every academic year and is open to all students in the United States who meet the eligibility criteria. Scholarship applications close on September 25th every year. Seniors also a reminder that to qualify for Merit scholarships at most colleges and universities, you must apply and achieve your highest ACT by December.  Although application deadlines for schools are on or before December 1st, they will usually wait on the results from the December ACT.  Please review deadlines on the college website and remember ACT registration deadlines located at www.act.org or posted in the counseling center.

 

Free ACT and Free Test Prep for Low Income Students - Students who register for the ACT test using a low-income fee waiver will automatically receive free access to ACT Online Prep for a year. To qualify for a fee waiver, students must be enrolled in 11th or 12th grade; be either a United States citizen or testing in the U.S., U.S. territories or Puerto Rico; and meet one or more selected indicators of economic need.

In addition to sharing the latest information on social media safety, an effort between law enforcement and the district to maintain safety of our students and to keep parents alerted about the drug trends in our area, the following information is offered to support parents and students. We have been notified of a newer drug trend in our area that is targeting high school and college level students.  Individuals are injecting heroine, xanax, methamphetamine, marijuana and other substances into gummy bears and gummy worms, then distributing in bags of (4).  These drugs are incredibly dangerous and potentially deadly.  There are several suppliers in the Cape Girardeau area and the trend is moving south.  This information is to alert parents to be cautious and mindful of potential issues.  As always, thank you for being involved and supporting the students of our district.

Students needing to improve their ACT scores have an additional opportunity to participate in a FREE preparation program.  The US Army has connected our District with www.march2success.com which provides students with many practice options including (7) full length, timed tests constructed like the actual ACT.  The program will NOT in any way connect a student to the Military, but can help improve score dramatically.  The March 2 Success program will also grade the practice tests and provide you with correct answers to missed questions.  It is an awesome opportunity for a prep program that generally costs $75-$100 when taken at colleges and universities.
